Cotton Piecer
The cotton and textile industry was a dominant occupation in Huddersfield. Typically children would start working around the age of 13, and cotton piecing was a job given to the youngest children within the workforce.
They would be responsible for leaning into the spinning machine to repair any broken threads from the cotton spindles. The time they had to repair each thread was limited, as the machine was constantly on, and the risk of injury dangerously high.
